Democratic Candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, Missa Eaton, spoke to residents today about the choices in this election. From the Paul Ryan budget proposal to tax reform, Republicans have offered no real compromise that would benefit dedicated, working families. Eaton said that her opponent, Mike Kelly’s support of Representative Ryan’s budget is a microcosm of Kelly’s approach to policy.
“Call it what it is; it’s a laissez-faire nightmare. Everything about the proposal backhands the 99 percent of Americans who keep this country running,” contends Eaton. “Making it law means more American jobs go overseas, subsidies continue for big oil companies, and the elimination of agricultural aid our farmers need to remain competitive. As if this were not unjust enough, the Ryan Budget also triples the Bush tax cuts for the average millionaire, meaning that a person like “Millionaire” Mike Kelly would receive a tax cut of roughly $394,000,” stated Eaton. “From Mike’s perspective it’s a win-win: big oil subsidies and enormous tax breaks will only continue to pour money into his own pockets at the expense of everyone else.”
Eaton pointed out that in this tough economy good jobs are difficult to find. “Our families are struggling here in the 3rd district. The Republicans are cutting off aid to middle class families and single, working moms. These people need help, and they need it now. That’s why I developed my 5 point plan, to have initiatives that will help these working families and I will fight to implement them when I get to Washington,” she concluded.
