Democrats showing in last night's special elections should worry Republicans

Harrisburg, PA – "We are very proud of the Democratic candidates who ran in yesterday's Special Elections and of the Democratic performance in their Districts" said Jim Burn, Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. Yesterday's Special Elections in the 87th District and the 161st District were not only a success for the Democratic Party, but a fair warning to Republicans that their platform and Presidential candidates may be alienating Pennsylvania voters.

2015 Jefferson Jackson Dinner a great time!

On Thursday, April 30, 2015, the Erie County Democratic Party held its annual Jefferson Jackson dinner at The Concourse at Union Station, 123 W 14th St, Erie PA. Cindy Purvis and Rick Mitchell were honored as Committeewoman and Committeeman of the Year. Many candidates were excited to speak to party members. Kudos to the organizers (Mary Jo Campbell, Linda McCabe and Judi Roth) for putting together a truly enjoyable evening!

Petition Signing Party

On Saturday, February 28, 2015, candidates for State-level Judicial, County and Local Office had the opportunity to obain petition signatures at a Petition Signing Party at the Atrium at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center 7794 Peach St, Erie PA. The event include finger goods and a cash bar. This was part of Northwest Weekend II, which ran throughout Northwest PA from February 27 through March 1. The event was organized by the Northwest PA Caucus and the Erie County Democratic Party.


Campaign '16 starts here


Last week, I had the privilege of announcing that Philadelphia will host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The convention is our opportunity to present the clear contrast between the Democratic and Republican Parties. And there is no better place for Democrats to make our case in 2016 than Philadelphia.

I will never forget the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City. Working as a busboy in nearby Ocean City, I managed to worm my way into a big fundraiser at the Shelburne Hotel. There I shook hands with some of the political stars of the day: Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Hubert Humphrey, Adlai Stevenson and the Minnesota senator who would become my anti-Vietnam War hero, Eugene McCarthy.


Walsh announces bid for judge

Joe Walsh, an Erie lawyer who has handled cases ranging from divorce to the death penalty, announced his candidacy for Erie County judge last Thursday at Erie Maennerchor. See more about Joe Walsh for Judge at his campaign's website at

Walsh, 56, said the community has "a very important decision to make in the May 19 primary" -- who to succeed Erie County Judges Shad Connelly and Ernest J. DiSantis Jr., who will retire with nearly 50 years combined experience.


PA Democratic Party Welcomes Democratic Congressional Members To Philadelphia

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party welcomes the Democratic Members of Congress to Philadelphia this week for their retreat. With a decision regarding the location of the 2016 Democratic National Convention coming from the DNC within just a few weeks, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party encourages the Caucus members to take this opportunity to experience the many wonderful amenities that the City of Philadelphia has to offer.

President Obama and Vice President Biden will address the Democratic Congressional Caucus later in the week.
